According to the latest news, the Philippine Ministry of Transportation plans to open a new shipping route for General Sangtos, Indonesia's Bitung, at the end of April to promote trade between the Philippines and India.
The 2013 ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group meeting decided to conduct a feasibility study on the ASEAN Ro-Ro shipping network by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, which is one of the three ASEAN Ro-Ro shipping priority routes (Asean RORO) identified in this study.
The other two routes are the Dumai-Malacca route in Indonesia and Malaysia, and the Pula Bay in Indonesia - Penang, Malaysia - Phuket, Thailand.
According to Philippine Transport Minister Du Jiade, Asean RORO complies with the ASEAN Economic Integration Plan, the ASEAN Unicom Master Plan, the Brunei 2011-2015 Action Plan and the Kuala Lumpur 2016-2025 Transportation Strategic Plan.
Compared with the traditional Manila-Bidong route, which takes 3 to 5 weeks, the new route takes only 3 days, which greatly reduces the cargo transportation time.
Dugard said that the new route is of great significance for strengthening economic ties between countries along the route, and is conducive to promoting bilateral trade and improving the quality of people's quality of life. It is reported that the Philippine Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant departments have formed a joint working group, and will soon go to Bidong Port to check the preparations for navigation.
